[...] I found these images interesting for several reasons. There was an intimacy I didn’t expect on an e-commerce platform not intended for social interaction. The content mingled the public and the private.

However, unlike on social media, the women on eBay were explicitly selling something, which gave these photos a specific and different purpose.

The ‘real’ selfie was resulting in its aesthetics being employed by professional makers and influencers were commodifying it.

These photographs also asked questions about the medium of photography, which has now become accessible more than ever – the fe/male gaze, objectification, what really is forsale, and the decision process when pressing the shutter.
